Sukiya Serenity Chair

Prototype
This is an armchair themed on the serene beauty of Japan, with a concept derived from the facade designs of Sukiya-zukuri architecture. Its linear structure, built from square timber, and its meticulously calculated wooden parts deliberately create negative space. The light that filters through these gaps enhances the appeal of the wood’s natural texture and hue. This brings a sense of calm and lightness to the surrounding space, with the goal of the chair itself serving as a beautiful accent piece. In ancient times, architectural techniques from China and elsewhere were interpreted by Japanese carpenters and artisans and have been passed down through many generations to the present day. We have embraced this inherited design legacy as the “DNA” of woodworking, reinterpreting it to create new value in the form of furniture.
